Agency leverages Access Idaho to modernize its website and accept electronic payments remotely

Citizens in the Gem State now have easy mobile access to the Idaho STEM Action Center’s website; and the state agency can process electronic payments practically anywhere using a mobile phone or tablet, thanks to the state’s official Web portal manager, Access Idaho.

Access Idaho worked with STEM Action Center’s webmaster to modernize the agency’s website, stem.idaho.gov, by providing customizable templates and tools for mobile-friendly use. The project proves significant, as about 58 percent of Idaho citizens use mobile devices as their primary or only access to the Internet.

The Idaho Office of the CIO is encouraging state agencies to take advantage of Access Idaho’s templates and development resources, including the WordPress toolkit. The toolkit helps agency webmasters save time with development, standardizes the web look so online and mobile visitors know they viewing an official state site, and makes it easier for citizens to locate information on different sites because of a common navigation structure.

Building on its new, mobile-friendly site, the STEM Action Center also utilizes Access Idaho’s OntheGo application to accept electronic payments securely out in the field using the agency’s mobile devices. The STEM Action Center accepts any credit or debit card displaying a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express logo.

“The STEM Action Center has found that Access Idaho’s PayPort service is an incredibly user-friendly system. It was easy to link to our website and has allowed users to make donations to the Center in a quick and efficient manner,” said Angela Hemingway, Idaho STEM Action Center Executive Director. “We are also using it for an upcoming fundraiser. Registrants can use PayPort to sign up and pay for their registration online, as well as donate additional funds to Center projects and programs.”

The partnership between the STEM Action Center and Access Idaho operates under a self-funded model, in which no tax dollars or county funds were used to develop and none are necessary to maintain the service. Access Idaho, a subsidiary of NIC, manages the state’s official Web portal, idaho.gov, and specializes in online government applications.
